Subject: Need help on what type of tree I need

Hello. Could you please give me ideas for what might be the best tree for me. I’m looking for:

- feature tree in a grassed section which has full sun all year round
- non invasive roots as next to a patio
- evergreen (a must)
- prefer flowering (white flowers) or fruit
- ornamental / statement tree
- not too big
- would be great if it can produce shade
- location is Gold Coast, QLD, Australia

Thank you!

Keeping grass growing under it and non-invasive roots will be two of your biggest problems with any tree.

you could try choosing between these lemon scented natives:

http://www.anbg.gov.au/gnp/gnp14/backhousia-citriodora.html

and though 7m is maybe too big and it has pink flowers.. http://ellenbytreefarm.com/products/corymbia-citradora-dwarf-pink-lemon-scented-gum-

I’m also very fond of Angophera costata. I can’t grow one because my soil is not suitable. However it should work well for you.

Several Melaleucas are great white flowering plants in summer.
Also some hybrid Grevilleas

Yes I forgot about Melaleuca, some of my favourites too. Maybe Melaleuca linariifolia could fit the bill. One I really like is Melaleuca leucadendra a weeping Melaleuca, but that one may be too big.
