Hmmm… I can feel a new Hyperforum coming on.

Any chance of displaying the post number in the post diplay window, cb88?  It would be useful for people wanting to refer to information previously posted.

It’s a bit of a quick-n-dirty knockup from one of the others, so not all the links at the top work yet (some of them still link to ABC forums pages);  but Logout works for here, as do the Chat icons, and the Holiday Forum Goodnight icon.

Hello Folks!
Just finding my way around the new accomodation, very nice too!
I’ve been busy outside as usual, got a bit more done without the other forum to entice me inside :)
I actually cleaned out my shed yesterday – amazing!! – it’ll stay tidy as long as I keep out of it .
Lots of cherry tomatoes ripening now, and the plums are turning red too. The Mulberries are ripening and the pears are nearly ready to pick. A funny thing though, a second lot of blossom happened on the pear and we’ve got some very tiny fruit as well as the mature ones. Weird. I know there were 2 varieties on there originally but you’d think they would flower together.
Oops, should have opened a new thread I guess, got carried away. :)

well done O40, yes I have been outside since 10am this morning, back yard finally done, well as much as I intend doing LOL, and nice smells out there as well now LOL

Yeah, I just got that glitch as well.  Seems to be back now, though.  Just a teething problem, no doubt.

Looks like you need to add a link like that for the holiday forum… Opera doesnt load it as its a different site in the main frame.. Strange… i thought the other forum worked fine last night in this setup.. might just be me.

Hello bluegreen. I’ve been not bothering with gardening forumming for a while. Too much to do anyway. Still gardening though. Since we have had some rain in South West Vic in the past 12 months, lots of things happened in the garden that I had forgotten about. Things came up and flowered that I don’t recall planting!!! It has been 6 or 7 years of dry, after all. Lots of them I thought had died. But they were just hiding away, biding their time……

given half a chance nature will confound us all…

Yay, this new forum is cool :)

Hopefully I will have something to contribute tomorrow – I have the day off work and plan to spend some time in the garden before it gets too hot.

Tonight OH finished putting the hay bale edging around the herb patch area, which means I can now clean up the paving and hopefully the sand will take a bit longer to come back. Fill in hole where the privet used to be, move a potted orange tree to that spot, and then start digging manure and lupin mulch into the herb area to get some semblance of soil in there (right now it’s the worst kind of water-repellent sand).

Whew! Exhausted already… won’t get even half of that done tomorrow though.

Ooh.. maybe I can use some photos from Indonesia in the Textile Testing thread :)

its raining here and its starting to flood in the drive way the chook pen its flooded =[ i cant garden in the rain and i wanted to weed the tomato bed today ill take a pivture of the drive way for u guys

yeah grassy salt ash in that area is going to be very wet same with up where i am lucky dad slashed the paddocks where the water always goes to so it may dry out alot fast….. going to be wet here the river at hinton is starting to rising.

I’ve got a dead rat in my worm shed. He’s stuck between the rafter and the roofing iron. He’s mingin! I have to remove a bit of roof to get him out and i cn smell him from here in the house. Gees it’s a shocker. Job #1. Remove rat.

Yes in a roundabout way. PM told me where you’d gone while we had a few beers in Moresby the other night. I wouldn’t have thought to go looking in SSSF. I have reason to believe PM was a bit inebriated but i can’t be sure. Mainly because i was too.

have the chooks got enough perches for them to roost up high? maybe once you have drained off the water a deep layer of sawdust or something will help keep their feet dry too. but like Longy said in the long term having their pen on higher ground might be the go.

yea that me i am still getten taller…shhh dont tell people i have cork tree seeds they ment to worth alot and i dont want to try grow them and then have them die on me i kind off got a few hand fulls but ill try and grow them soon =)

hope they grow for you, but I think they take a very long time to become a big tree – but hey, you might be able to try and bonsai one!

We can pretty well do what we want as long as we don’t abuse the privilege, and as chooks are part of my garden I consider them relevant to a gardening forum :)

I am so thinking of buy a new paper shredder from the post office. Got one for $29.00 and I think it is $45.00 reg price.

Using tweezers at the moment to get it to clear of another paper jam.

Motor is winding down too. gee I have given this one a good hiding since we moved here. Lot of paper has gone through it.

Mr BG killed ours trying to put too much in at once…

Saw one in Safeway today that was only about $20 I think. Didn’t buy it though.

Saw one in Safeway today that was only about $20 I think. Didn’t buy it though.

Oh I have used mine for so many things from paper for the compost, chook nests to bunny bedding.

I’d be lost without one and to think I was sending the paper off my property is not my idea of a good plan at all.

Our plum tree was planted by the lady who owned the house before us. It’s had a few small plums before but the cheeky dog ate them before we got around to it!

All our fruit trees are struggling though, as I think she planted them into the sand without doing any soil enrichment first.

That’s kinda cool, you don’t have to stress out about getting them well established :)

It’s been stressful for me buying a house with lots of plants in the gardens, but no retic and even though some of them are quite big, they don’t have strong root systems. All the wussy ones have died since working full time doesn’t leave me much time to fuss over them!

The worst part is how water repellent the sand gets. You think you’re giving your plants plenty of water, but actually none of it gets down to the roots =/

I’m starting a new herb patch soon so I will spend ages addign organic matter before planting anything – also there is a product called Sand Remedy which is like a fine clay you can add to sandy soils to make them less sandy.

Oh I have the most water wise garden of all.. I just don’t water anything and then they all end up dying :D

Nah just kidding – I bucket out my laundry water, and when we get a run of hot weather and everything looks poorly I do use the hose. Also worm wee and bokashi juice goes to the plants looking saddest.

Anyway gotta run, might finish sweeping the paving before Other Half gets home :)

Yeah i have that book VG. It’s a corker. You’ll find almost everything in there. It’s really handy for cuttings. Gives detailed descriptions and level of difficulty etc. Great book.

Named it Tezza and he’s a 2 year old from the animal welfare league.

The owners have a 5 year old kid and the dog kept knocking the kid over……

I always end up with the last 5/6 posts because every one has left to watch Teev or something.

As I’m all alone I’ll pass on the Pomolorosa news. We have had 4 white headed pigeons visiting our trees for the last week or so. Now I think one pair is building a nest somewhere nearby. We have had lots of different birds breading round here over the years but the white headed pigeons are a first. They are supposed to live in rainforrests for preference. There is no rain forrest here.(more,s the pity)

I did a bit of potting today. Finally got around to getting the azalea self layered plants and the Calliandra that had done the same thing, into pots.
Potted almost all of my Ivy Geranium cuttings into hanging baskets. I have a vision of how lovely they are going to look when they flower. They’re hanging under the Leptospermum bushes that have grown to about 3mt.

Because of the wet weather we are having…and I have mentioned before…the ants, including the meat ants, have been building their homes on higher ground. I checked one of the garden chairs today before I sat on it and just as well because the meat ants had begun to build under the seat. When you stumble on a meat ant nest you need to move very quickly because they get as mad as hell and attack anything and everything. They have a hell of a mean bite. Later on I was shifting a wind chime from a tree so I could use the hook for a hanging basket and there, all over my hand was some very very unhappy meat ants. They had been building in the tubes of the chimes. I have never seen them try to build that high before. Fortunately even though I don’t move very quick any more, I bluddy did when I flung that wind chime like a cricket ball.

Well that’s enough for today. Got to keep some news for another day. Night all.

Now PM….I didn’t know we had any of these around here. I just thought we had bush. I did have a read up about the pigeons and it seems they adore Camphor laurels. After enticing them by growing lots of them, now we are chopping them down because they are invasive. I suppose the true balance will be found again eventually.

A nice cool day here and 1.5 ml rain in the night. Yesterday I rushed around and sprayed the roses for Blackspot and the Pear & Cherry for slugs. Hope the rain held off for long enough for the sprays to work. you have to grab a window of opportunity to spray don’t you? Not in hot sun, not in rain, not in wind, surprising how little time there is in between all those!

Why I like growing capsicum. You can leave the fruit on the plant for a long time, and then whenever you want one you just go and pick it as fresh as.

problem with feeling under the weather is that I don’t have any energy to get out in the garden and take advantage of the rain we’ve had :(

Yes I too leave the capsicums on the plants until needed.

I’m not planting out any more summer crops…. will look towards my winter crops now. Just in case we end up in Sydney…….

we will be in Sydney next weekend. Because we came from there we still have a lot of friends there so we are having a 50th birthday celebration for Mr BG. Some friends have offered up their place as a venue and we are having a catered spit roast. I have taken the week following off work too so I can recover from the trip and hopefully get some time in the garden.

I haven’t stopped from 6 am. I have changed the chook’s straw, turned in more of the sheep poop, taken 2 worm farm’s apart and got 3 bucket’s of worm cast’s..this and the worm wee and old chook straw got tuned into the new vege garden area I swiped off the chook’s..got many rhododendron cutting’s all potted up and labelled..oh and the purple rhody I removed out of the ground to pot up is going well..not drooped at all even with the rough treatment I gave it ! I had to get the dirt off the rootball and so I hosed the rootball with a jet of water.
I swept the path’s and patio..moved big pot’s to make way for the rhodys all along the back fence.
I planted a robyn gordon grevillea where the purple rhody was.
Have got plenty of big tomato’s on the plant’s but they are still green !
Now for some food and a cuppa then shower, I am wet and stuffed. Perfect day for gardening, cool and overcast :)

Oi HP remind me I have a rhody here for you, I cant grow them :(

this lot cost about $13 – it depends on what is in it these days as they sort it into categories and recycle. Once we took a trailer load of metal and weren’t charged anything. I guess because it is fully recyclable and maybe they can sell it.

I’m not used to this tropical-type plant growth. My tomato plants have visibly grown since I left for Melbourne yesterday morning. I reckon I could stand out there and see them getting taller. We’ve had 33mm rain since Friday afternoon, and it has been mid teens temperatures. (South West Vic)

I think I have a cold coming:( Might even be here now….

Nose is running…funny enough the left side of my nose above the “Hollywood Botox” and I have a dry cough.

I had to laugh about the enjoyment of fresh produce from the garden. We had a BBQ yesterday for some of Mr O40’s family and i was pleased to make a green salad with my own lettuce, rocket, tomatoes, radishes and cucumber. I also added capsicum and mushrooms from the stupidmarket. They wouldn’t touch it because I had added mushrooms!! Wouldn’t even pick them out and eat the rest . HA! Their loss.

ok dad said he will teach me to drive till so far then he will say i am good at it and then him and mum will teach me… dad says i should be a really good driver becuase 1 ride motorbikes i mow lawn on a ride on mower and i can drive a tractor and i have driven our 4wd drive with the trailer in our paddocks so i have had some expirnce driving already =)

YEs thats all good—BUT you have to learn the road rulles and also to drive safe with other on the road—but always think of it as a real privilege—to hold a licence—

If you lived up here Buffy you wouldn’t even have to plant the seedlings. Just chuck an old tomato on the garden and nature does the rest. LOL.

Well, essentially all were downloading when we click on a post or a thread is a bit of text, so it shouldn’t be a problem with download size (the size of the download for the sites I make at work are much bigger, and they load in about the same time). I’m guessing it’s more than the server providing us with the bit of text is responding very slowly to requests.

Oh well.. shouldn’t be spending that much time here anyway!

My mum used to boil the lamb chops with curry powder and onion with carrots thrown in for good measure…… loved it.

Then years later I used to make a flasher lamb curry.

Tonight will be my first beef curry I have ever made. Will have it with rice. The elf will have a Y-bone grilled. He hates curries…… yay more for me.

I have been cleaning and the new vac is working over time….

I went in to our favourite electricity goods store today, they are shutting down due to retirement, and there was a Dyson…so I mismanaged my (personal) funds and walked out with it before anybody else could snaffle it…

The cap is missing to the vacuum wand if you are using the stand-up vac (we all thought the wand was a bit short) but I can’t complain as the head for free-vacuuming the carpet and floor was included (is usually an extra that one can purchase)…The lady is going to order me a new cap…

Can’t get the grots to clean the floors for love or money, but they all had a go at the new vac…imagine! I’ll be able to vacuum as often as I like without having to go to the Dr for a course of antibiotics after… (for the sinus)

We drove around the town today, looking for our “disaster”(couldn’t find it)…it’s unreal …people are hiring moving vans and cleaning out whole households… the water has receded from one of the feeder creeks, the next major river is not flowing, but still “this is gonna be a big one”…banks were closed, all of them, due to unavailability of staff…moving houses from the “flood” I guess…all that lost income…poor buggers…they’ve sandbagged Coles, not sure why they allowed them to build in that flood-prone area, but I think only the carpark is floodprone, they were made to build higher than the floodline…

Mind you if it floods at our place, there won’t be any town left…It’s the people who didn’t have time to move their stock that I feel sorry for…when you get 20 inches of rain in about a week, you don’t really get the time or the logistics opportunity to move stock…such a shame…

Another busy day draws to a close………. it’s so cool here that gardening is comfortable :)
I fed the roses I didn’t get around to yesterday to start with. Then I picked a big bowl of mulberries, I’ll use them as dessert on Weds when we have ppl to lunch. Just general weeding and tidying and the day is gone again. Oh I did take time out for a haircut too.
