Only just back on-line after pulling my laptop apart and replacing a hard drive. Prick of a job on this laptop. Now trying to change drive letters and get rid of two phantom drives and not having much luck.

I’ve always found that the only way to do that is in the registry. It’s in HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices; just delete the entries that name the phantom drives.

DO NOT GO AWAYOVER

I’ve been trying to do it with ‘diskpart’ but it doesn’t see the phantom drives. They only show up under ‘explorer’ which has allocated the letters ‘D” and ‘E’ to non-existent CD drives. I have an actual DVD/CD drive and that has the letter ‘F’.

OK, I need guidance on this. How do I get to this registry?
