Serious post for once, we put this to the brains trust because there’s something we aren’t quite understanding. Context first.

Victoria seeks coronavirus support from ADF, Commonwealth and other states

Victoria has requested logistical support from the Australian Defence Force and help from other states as it tries to tackle an increasing number of coronavirus infections in the community. Overnight the state recorded 20 new cases of COVID-19, following a week of increased community transmission that left health officials “worried”.

As they should be. Our concerns are as follows.

They mention “community transmission” and it really sounds like the recent outbreak is not dominated by the “known clusters” and “family gatherings”, there seem to be quite a few cases they’re investigating because it’s not clear where they’ve come from. We’ve had a brief poke around to try to get solid numbers but they don’t seem to be easy to find on VIC health sites.

Stepping back you’d expect that in places with hundreds of new cases, or thousands, even millions (we all know about that place), there’d be so much shit flying around that community (local source unknown) transmission is big Big BIG. That doesn’t seem to be the case in VIC.

Which means, WTF? Where are these cases coming from? Someone isn’t telling the full story — is it (1) ABC? (2) VIC health? (3) Patients and contacts? (4) Foreign powers exporting COVID-19? (5) COVID-19 itself?

1. We got some numbers from ABC news but they don’t seem to add up, which is what we’re talking about.
2. Do the authorities know something they haven’t told us about? Waiting to be more certain before reporting? Concealing the outbreak like West Taiwan?
3. If you got sick, or someone you know got sick, you wouldn’t want to reveal that you’d been to those illegal healthcare worker parties, or other dodgy gatherings now, would you?
4. How do you explain sporadic spontaneous outbreaks occurring this late in a pandemic, without any clear warning (of course, it’s been building up, so may not be completely true)? There are any number of countries out there with a large supply of live COVID-19 just ready to export to “success story states” like VIC. Including West Taiwan, obviously they’re still concealing the true numbers, they’re probably sneaking it into New South West Taiwan.
5. We said above that ^{you’d expect that in places with hundreds of new cases … there’d be so much shit flying around that community transmission is big}, and it didn’t seem to be the case in VIC, but we also know that this COVID-19 thing has a damn sneaky incubation period and asymptomatic spread. It’s possible that there are already hundreds of new cases in VIC if these numbers are looking this way.

At least for (4) and (5) above, that could well explain the need for an Australian Defence Force intervention ¿
