In last weekend’s parliamentary elections, the conservative SDS-led government was removed from office. Prime Minister Janez Jansa had governed in a minority government but following these elections will be unable to establish such a coalition.

Robert Golob of the green-liberal party Svoboda seems set to become Prime Minister. His party has 41 out of 90 seats, and he will need the support of other left leaning parties.

Janez Jansa is a close ally of Hungary’s Victor Orban, and of Donald Trump, whom he regards as the winner of the 2020 Presidential election.
