Good morning everybody.Partly cloudy with the clouds beautifully lit from underneath by the as-yet unrisen sun. 17.1° C, 72% RH with light breezes. BoM predicts some showers and a top of 23° C.
White cockatoos are flying around making a one heck of a racket. Kookaburras have already done their thing. Crows, little wattle birds and peewees are calling. As are several other birds I cannot identify.
Breakfast (and maybe lunch) will be the remnants of last night’s very yummy salsiccia pilaf made by Mrs V. Tonight will be Chicken Kyiv and steamed veges with my blue cheese sauce.
In the mean time, I’ll make a cup of strong black tea.
More cleaning, tidying and repairing today. Gosh I’ve let things slide. It’s all gotten out of hand. Still, some things got completed yesterday. In particular, the largest cast iron frying pan has had its thick carbonised deposits removed (angle grinder with wire brush) and has been re-seasoned. There is also a newly installed bathroom/laundry light switch. The switch itself has been dodgy – as in not always making proper electrical contact – for some while. Some of the stored house paint has been earmarked for the recycling area at the tip. More needs to be sorted. Mrs V will be involved with that lot.
Still, making a slight headway.
Now – off to boil the kettle and make a cuppa.
I did the cast iron frypan with oven cleaner as I recall. Worked well. I may have used a paint scraper but I can’t recall now. I should do that again soon, before it gets so thick this time.
The carbonised deposit was about 2 mm thick in places. I tried a paint scraper, but it wasn’t much chop. I suppose using NaOH might have worked, but powered wire brushes worked well de-coking engines, and it worked well for the pan. It’s the first de-coke for the pan in about 35 years of use, so it may never need it again.
