You go to the central place you want. Set the GPS location, then the radius you want (15m – 2000m).

Should the dog go within 3 metres of your set radius, the gadget/collar will beep first. Then vibrate, then apply a small irritating shock. And will continue to do so while the dog is near, or outside the radius. The dog learns to return to within the radius to stop the irritation.

Well that’s a decent area of freedom.

I’ll need to set the radius reasonably low. I cannot have him going through the farm fences into next door’s cattle paddock, hassling them, or Ernie’s cows that are in my bottom paddock. So the radius will probably be about 50 metres to start with.

I need it to work, in that his instinct to chase things is not as strong as the deterrent on the radius boundary.

Are you able to run these days? My dog Daisy was very active but in those days (long ago) I was able to play lots of hectic running and chasing type games with her.

It’d be quite beyond me these days :)
