I’m feeling tired today. Not content with visual ghosting (seeing movement out of the corner of my eye), yesterday I had an auditory ghost – I heard Bruna shake. And this morning she added in an olfactory element. I was weeding and wondering why I could smell dog poo. Actually it must have been Long’s poo I had stood in and it was on the bottom of my gardening shoes. But the story is better the way my mind first read it.

So I’m going to have my usual afternoon read and nap shortly. I should plant out some broccoli plants and make sure they are covered to keep the cabbage white butterflies off them. But I can’t be bothered at the moment.

in our stoicism we give ourselves permission to breathe in a moment of grief. In this, destructive emotions cannot overwhelm us, but are acknowledged and attended.
