Rabbits, yes. Hares, no.

Rabbits are nonreportable. If one was to have one as a pet, and take it to the vet, the vet does not legally have to report it. Ferrets are reportable, for example.

Hey poindexter, when was the last time an animal was deliberately introduced into Australia?

Rabbits in Australia infuriate me. The damage wild rabbits have done to the fragile environment is disastrous and unforgivable. I spent quite some time on a sheep farm in NW NSW when I was a kid, a friend’s family farm. The erosion caused by rabbit burrows was incomprehensible. My father hired a rifle to help cull the little bastards and I was terrified by it all. That’s a story in the life of a young kii. Then there is that time at uni where I provoked a crazy discussion in a science in early childhood lecture about “bunnies”. That’s another story.
