Not for the last 50-odd years. Somebody else heavily scratched the back window glass on my HK Holden panel van doing that, so I never did it again.

My old Nissan Patrol would often accumulate a heavy layer of dust and muck.. living on a gravel road.. Sometimes some funny fellow would write “WASH ME” on the rear glass. That can scratch. Irritating.

That is exactly what happened to me.
