You’re missing what kii was referring to.
He does sometimes tell the truth, but he switches it onto people he either regards as his adversaries, or onto people he wants to have power over. But only if it going to make them look bad. His supporters don’t see (or don’t want to see!) that he or his cronies are the ones that have done the misdeed.

But yes, with narcsissists, their own story is all they allow to be the truth. Try to bring real truth into a discussion and they will gaslight or deflect. Such fun.
