Speaking of cars…In the 1970s my father did something to the engine of his Torana. Like fuel injector sysyem.
Something that he pressed a button on the console or steering column to activate. It added something to the fuel system and gave a boost in power. He rigged up the device in his workshop, he didn’t buy it otc.
I remember thinking – “hE’s gOnNa bLoW uS aLl uP!!!!” but it didn’t.
He worked at GMH in Pagewood as a boilermaker and invented a few things that they implemented on the factory floor. I’m pretty sure he didn’t invent a fuel injector system, just made his own.
Quite possibly water methanol injection or perhaps nitrous oxide injection.
I’m thinking water methanol. I vague memory of that conversation when he did his AuDHD thing and over explained something. Ask a simple polite question, get a 30+ minute answer as Dad points at stuff under the hood.
You can get a bit of a boost from it, though not much on a naturally aspirated engine.
We had water/meth injection on the turboprop freighters I used to fly and it would make a huge difference. The engineers could vary the flow of the pumps and one plane that I flew (VH-UZY) had them cranked right up.
You had to move the throttles up to about 50% power before hitting the water/meth switch or you ran the risk of over-torqueing the gearbox, with the limit being 2,206 lb-ft.
I’d hit the switch at 800 lb-ft and the torque would jump up to 1,500 lb-ft. Bloody great fun.
