Yesterday our fire brigade was assisting two neighbouring brigades with hazard reduction burns.
The one at Eagle Bay went well with no problems, and the other one at Yoongarillup was going fine until the “incident”.
There were three heavy tankers and three light tankers burning a 10-30 meter perimeter around the reserve there in preparation for a larger burn when the weather permits.
At around 6:30 pm, the crews were asked to return to the station for food and drinks. On the way there in the dark, one of the light tankers in the convoy clipped a log on the side of the track. That touch rolled it onto the track in front of our heavy tanker in the dark, which didn’t see it and caught it with the front left mudguard. It then caught the steps on the left side of the truck which jammed it into the fuel tank and did some major damage.
I now have an insurance claim to fill out this weekend.
I’ll post some pics shortly.
