You’ve restored my faith

The Sydney bit was obvious. How does one get the “Sweeney” part?

Originally referred to the Met Police’s “Flying Squad”, and then to police more generally. (From rhyming slang, Sweeney Todd).

There was a popular police show called The Sweeney in the 1970s, and it is referenced in the song Cool For Cats by Squeeze: “The Sweeney’s doing ninety ‘cause they’ve got the word to go/They get a gang of villains in a shed up at Heathrow.”

Well, well, well. Sweeney Todd was in my brain but I couldn’t make the connection.
