I suppose parents in another culture wanted to call their child that name. In some languages (eg Greek, Bulgarian), it is equivalent to our “John”.

In truth I have no idea why my parents wanted to name me “Michael”. And I never asked why.

My parents were like many at the time that either repeated names of other relatives who all seemed to be of the Apostles for males and Mainly Mary gor the females.
