A Breakthrough in Pandemic Prevention: Universal Vaccine Completes Phase I Clinical Trial
Researchers led by the University of Cambridge and spin-out DIOSynVax have successfully completed a Phase I human clinical trial for a novel “universal vaccine” technology designed to offer broad protection against broad viral families, including Sarbeco coronaviruses like SARS-CoV-2 and related animal strains. Using computer simulations and machine learning, scientists engineered a synthetic ‘super-antigen’ containing shared genetic features of entire virus groups to trigger lasting immune responses before new variants or animal-to-human spillovers emerge. Administered via a needle-free micro-fluid jet, the vaccine was demonstrated to be safe and well-tolerated among 39 healthy volunteers, paving the way for larger Phase II trials to test its efficacy across wider populations: https://www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/new-universal-vaccine-technology-could-protect-us-from-future-virus-outbreaks

Extremely impressive if it works as advertised.
