We reached out to some food trucks to cater for the school’s 50th anniversary. Only one responded: a cookie van selling cookies for $7-$10. Principal said no, the expected demographic wouldn’t be interested in cookies. So Devonshire Tea was served instead. It proved to be somewhat unpopular, or maybe attendee numbers were low. Either way, they had a lot of scones going to waste so they just gave them away.

(The Americanisation of language has reached the point of no return. Even store-bought choc chip biscuits are now labelled “cookies” and most kids I know say “soda” instead of soft drink.)
