Yesterday morning was a trip to Bunbury to collect some crushed lava from the old volcano. This is the very old lava flow that cooled and did the hexagon shape as India decided to depart Northwards.
It covers most of the Southwest of WA, but has had multiple changes of sea level since. These days there is only about 2 or 3 meters of sand covering it, and there are several places where it is a feature.

Depending on the size of the chunks, most of it is the bluemetal road that people dive on, but in this case it was for a subsoil drain underneath the future building so that it doesn’t get mould creeping up the walls.

The big chunks(40mm) are the ballast under railway lines, and the even bigger chunks (100mm) are what you chuck into a drainage ditch to stop erosion.
