“The picture puzzles me.

The signal flag flying is V-Victor, which inn the International (i.e. civilian) Code means, ‘i require assistance’.”

I have a vague memory of you trying to sail into Bourke?

Maybe the “Require assistance” flag is “Can we get another navigator, this one seems to be kinda a few degrees off somewhere”.

Bourke, indeed.

It was Ballarat.

Much closer to the sea.

Well, that is a bit more useful.

I already know that I would fail a navigators exam.

I hope that you know that I was just pulling your leg here.

There is a good chance that I could not navigate a fire truck in the open ocean. I would definitely need your advice here.

I don’t know how i managed to avoid running anything aground.

There was more than one occasion when i later realised that the course i had plotted had missed reefs or other hazards more by good luck than careful thought.
