It does seem just when we should be doing everything to fix things we getting leaders whose are doing the exact opposite almost like they wants to hurry up the ruining of the world. We certainly aren’t leaving the world a better place for our children

Such a cynic. We ignore so many of the advances in life expectancy, illness and freedom of expression (if we ignore Trump for a moment) and we get annoyed because our internet is too slow. Get a grip people! :-)

I admire your optimism but I walked out on Christmas dinner with my brother’s family about 30 years ago when whilst he was snavelling all my worms off the table(alfalfa sprouts) he said he had evey faith that man had the technology to smooth the way to the edge of the cliff.

Howard had me rattled. But I feel even more rattled now. And it is the hatred in the greater community now that is truly upsetting. And like Dutton would pull up all that hatred and put his foot down and be a statesman well respected, wouldn’t he?

The people who are inspired by Dutton’s confected hatred are a diminishing portion of society as AFAICT. You will remember Dutton said that two young head-scarfed girl were perfectly fine as a symbol of Australia day. There is a backlash against the liberal society most of us represent but that is only a consequence of how far we’ve come. Imagining gay marriage by popular vote back when JWH outlawed it is proof that it ain’t all bad.

Read your OP moron. I reckon I am closer in saying no you didn’t than you are in trying to pretend it was about Aretha and respect.

So your lines have no spaces?

(I remember a survey a few years back when everybody picked their own home state for being the most corrupt. The Vics thought it was them. The QLDers thought it was them. OK, so what I’ve gleaned from this thread is that roughy can post any old shit, claim a few posts later that it means something completely, and I mean completely, different from what any sane or rational person would read into the original post; and there are those who are perfectly OK with this.

What interests me most is what roughbarked said in the OP.

quote=roughbarked]

Everything since Kevin went too far with all the way.

I think I’m in complete agreement, but please explain.

… except that he didn’t go far enough – he just forgot to watch his back in the Roman senate.
Whitlam did, too.

> Corruption.

I don’t know anything about state politics. Haven’t even known who the state leaders are since Jeff Kennett, Neville Wran and Joe Bjelke-Peterson.

But I have read Gibbon’s “Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire” recently. The “decline” started when two separate power blocs developed: the honest power bloc and the corrupt power bloc. Neither could defeat the other and the battle between them toppled every state leader. Each corrupt leader was deposed by the honest power bloc and each honest leader was deposed by the corrupt power bloc

A little corruption like that in Australia is par for the course, but when it starts killing prime ministers and presidents than that’s a serious problem. Thinking about corruption recently, I looked up the wikipedia page (won’t do it now) that ranked countries by perceived level of corruption. Australia is up with the best 20, with New Zealand and Scandinavia and Japan a couple of European countries better. UK is worse, USA worse then that, and the USA is still better than 2/3 of the rest of the countries in the world.

So quit your bellyachin’, and watch those whose job it is to watch the backs of the politicians. Or to put it another way, watch all those places where people are banned from talking to the media. Such as the US Secret Service, catholic church, etc.

> Domestic Violence – Neds Fixing

I disagree. Someone close to me was a victim of domestic violence. As soon as the victim can be forced to go to the police the problem is solved within 24 hours. It may be the only part of law enforcement that works as it is supposed to, but it does work brilliantly. And it’s LGBT friendly.

> Homelessness

This is getting to be a bit like “unemployment”. There are getting to be a large underclass of part-time homeless, so like unemployment it is possible to massage the data by choosing inappropriate measures to make it support whatever biased claim you want to make. My brother in law actively seeks out homeless people in his suburb and finds temporary and permanent accommodation for them. While in London a policeman approached me to ask if I was homeless.

> Criminal Gangs in Suburbs

Not in my backyard. (Do you count hemp as “criminal gangs”?). The time of “Underbelly” is now ancient history.

> Sexism, racism

Doesn’t exist. Well, racism exists in Rwanda and South Africa. All we have here is a bit of religious intolerance.

> Drought mismanagement

Bloody Howard screwed this one up so bad it can’t be fixed.

> Mediaocracy

Hate it. But on the flipside there is the internet.

Well, Gough managed to get a lot more done. Kevin thought he was God and it went to his head. If he’d worked with his own people better then none of what has occurred since may have been.

Drought mismanagement goes back further than Howard. The farmers have always had their hands out for a Gov’t handout when in reality they should have been holidaying in Switzerland.

I doubt that the internet is going to fix the mediaocracy. That’s where twitter is.

OK, so what I’ve gleaned from this thread is that roughy can post any old shit, claim a few posts later that it means something completely, and I mean completely, different from what any sane or rational person would read into the original post; and there are those who are perfectly OK with this.

Good to see that the forum doesn’t change :)

At least he’s not an angry shit who attacks women and belittles people.

I’m harmless really.
I didn’t make any claims. I simply pointed out that in the back of my mind the song respect had more than one meaning and that it could be the antithesis of this thread. Curve made all the claims as he always does. I don’t have a problem with the fact that others hear different things and that I may say things that sound off track but it isn’t me that gets carried away.

It’s clearly a light-hearted thread of no import, not something to be filling the place with flame wars over.

Yeah, exactly like the other 40 thousand threads where roughy spews crap and then gets a pass.

Look, I haven’t read his posts in years, unless they are quoted by others in their posts, or I accidentally click on one of his, or I happen to read a full thread…‘the horror’. But christos….

You’re as bad as curve. I didn’t spew up.

Good morning everyone.

19.1°C and 71% RH on the window ledge. Clear (bright and sunny, no clouds) and nearly calm outside. Looks like it’ll be a good day. BoM predicts a top of 25°C (up from a low of 7.5°C) and no rain.

It’s those who think they’re God who really ARE God, that piss everyone off.

Ugh, no, that’s the equivalent of taking 900 dollars from everyone. Forcing everyone to pay more for their electricity – forever.

To avoid a recession, the $900 had to be spent quickly and by giving it directly to people it was the quickest way of doing so. To spend it on a huge renewable energy system would have taken months if not years to get started, so it would not have worked to avoid a recession.

And I bought the chook tractor with mine. Mr buffy didn’t get it. Timing problem. He didn’t have “income” much in that year, but he did rearrange his superannuation and take some out so that counted as income and put him over the limit. He wasn’t chuffed about that.

I missed out on it too..
They gave it out to the disabled a couple of weeks before they gave it to everyone else, during that 2 weeks, I got onto the DSP, so wasn’t eligible the first or second times.
Tried to argue it, but just got tied up in governmental tape, and was getting through rehab at the time.

Presumably you were not paying tax in that year or something. Or you earnt over $100,000. Or you got the first round stimulus for pension type people.

I wasn’t on a pension and didn’t earn over 100,000. It was likely that I wasn’t paying enough or any tax.

It could also have been because they had wrong data about me. Because when I did apply for the benefit, they had erroneous data about how much money I had in the bank etc.

i decided not buy DUX anymore, from what i saw , its garbage.

i decided to go with gas in the end. i only heat the water i use instantaneously.

H.M.A.S. Australia.

Here I am again in the ship’s post office
I want to send a telegram
Send it to the captain
Asking where the hell I am

I’ve been on this luxury cruise
For twenty five years or more
And I’ve just begun to wonder
Where we’re headed for

Band keeps playing American songs from 1973
Getting wise to the officer’s lies
That we’ve even got a country
You say we’re independent
And we’ve even got the right to choose
Well we’re sick of doing nothing
We’d like some work
We’d like some work
We’d like some work to do

Swimming pools, the cocktail parties
You keep us plied with drink
But when we cruised through South East Asia
It made us stop and think

We never take on passengers
Though we seem to have lots of room
And I can’t escape the notion captain
That this is a floating tomb

Band keeps playing American songs from 1973
Getting wise to the officer’s lies
That we’ve even got a country
You say we’re independent
And we’ve even got the right to choose
Well we’re sick of doing nothing
We’d like some work
We’d like some work
We’d like some work to do

Some of us have calculated
We must be short of oil
Someone mentioned fission
And blood began to boil

The passengers are restless, captain
This is how they feel
Angry at how it came to be you
Who sits beside the wheel

Band keeps playing American songs from 1973
Getting wise to the officer’s lies
That we’ve even got a country
You say we’re independent
And we’ve even got the right to choose
Well we’re sick of doing nothing
We’d like some work
We’d like some work
We’d like some work to do

And the band keeps playing the Imperial Waltz From far across the sea
Not a long way from discontent
To open mutiny
You say we’re independent
And we’ve even got the right to choose
Well we’re sick of being passengers
We’ve got some work
We’ve got some work
We’ve got some work to do
