I’m wondering: are the greater number of ‘sightings’ due to increased mass communications and the preponderance of visual recording devices, capturing something has been there regularly, or is it because we are seeing an increased number of meteoroids entering the Earth’s atmosphere?

Wouldn’t we see less meteors as our solar system gets older as many of the various sources they come from lose mass as time progresses.

Turnbull deposed, ScoMo in the Lodge, Potato Head back in Cabinet.

Now, a meteor in the sky.

What does it all portend?

Oh is that was it was. Had been rainy with short squalls all day, I assumed it was just thunder. Was quite a loud one so I thought it might have been a close-by lightning strike.

Single human or human species ?, wasn’t Haley’s comet for example much brighter just a few centuries ago, its not a meteor but would loose mass each time it comes closer to the sun.

Human species. Comets outgas cos they are made of ice etc. meteoroids don’t because they are pretty much a solid object.

A greater number of sightings? I haven’t noticed any increase in the number of sightings. There have been sightings of bolides every year or two since I was in high school. Perhaps you mean “more sightings on video”. I can even refer you to a bolide sighting in Aristotle’s “Meteorology”.

There have been fewer sightings of UFOs lately, though. Or perhaps just as many sightings but they don’t get reported in the News any more.

Or more people are taking their medication.

Do they have any idea yet where it landed? eg. east or west of Perth. And where in the constellations it came from?

The suspected meteor is believed to have crashed to earth some 100km east of Perth.

Somewhere near Northam WA, about an hour’s drive east north-east of Perth.

Curtin University already have a program running to track and find any landers in the southern half of the continent. They are reportedly already after this one.

“Curtin University’s meteor tracking group Fireballs in the Sky believe the meteor landed in Northam.”

“Northam is about 97 kilometres east-northeast of Perth in the Avon Valley.”

“out Northam-York way.”

“York is in Western Australia, situated on the Avon River, 97 kilometres (60 mi) east of Perth.”

If you go back 10 years or so Elvis sightings were not uncommon, that also seems to have dropped off lately.

Nearly everybody carries a reasonable-quality camera all the time these days, so the aliens are not showing themselves, in case they get captured. Back in the days of crap Instamatic cameras, fuzzy aliens were photographed every now and again. They can’t get away with showing themselves occasionally nowadays.

That’s true. UFO sightings correlated with Elvis sightings. Correlation does not imply causation.

One newspaper hazards a guess that it may have been space junk. I wonder if that’s been ruled out yet?

Forgot to update on results of unsticking glass.

Whoever suggested loosening the glue with heat was exactly on the money. It came apart easily after boiling in water for 15 minutes, without damaging the paint. Solvents, knives, razor blades, and hacksaw didn’t work so well. Boiling for 5 minutes was not sufficient.
