Aren’t they sending a probe to the sun? Which will of course burn up after sending somedata back to earth but that is if everything goes to plan.

It’s not radioactive contamination, because that would also have affected nearby Apache Point Telescope.
The article says “the FBI had told him there had been a credible threat” and “a security issue”, so probably a bomb threat.

I tell you this, up around that part of NM you’ll find heaps of conspiracy nutters etc. Hell, they’re everywhere. I bet they are frothing at the mouth and going off the rails about this closure.
Then there’s the Dunne Solar telescope. Maybe that’s the reason?
