Thank you for your letter dated the 14th of May.

Like many (I’d guess MOST) of the participants of the old forum, we were basically made unwelcome when the previous person-in-charge made chatting a hanging offence.

Gardeners are social animals, gardens have back fences and neighbours. The old forum was our back fence on Aunty’s GA website.

Most if not all of the people I knew on the old forum moved to a forum hosted and administered (free of charge mind you) by a member of the ABC Techtalk forum. The gardening questions and answers fly thick and fast as does the chat. HTML is allowed, so photos can appear in the forum. Posts appear immediately, no moderating. Because there is such goodwill between forum members, bad behavers are not there long. Tim, wouldn’t it be nice if the ABC GA forum went BACK to being like this?

This sort of freedom is not unknown on Aunty’s webspace, Techtalk is one where freedom has flourished.

It would seem the ABC GA forum was spoiled by ABC GA forum’s rules. People just walked away. Like I did.

I went and had a look at my old no longer used email and it was there. Basically the gist of it was that I am no longer a panellist! And that they valued my non-existent contributions! they seemed to have loosened up some of the rules, but not enough to tempt me back. I wonder how much interaction the presenters will put in as panellists?

The GA forum is currently a sham. which is a shame.
I do think the chat was out of hand. No question.
That was because there was no constant chat thread, so every other thread ended up hijacked.
Anyway. Whatever. I don’t go there anymore because it’s a wet fart, so i don’t really care.
The software for using the site is archaic. Impossible to navigate at speed, especially on dialup or slower speeds.
Hope it picks up. I might go back.
I won’t hold my breath.

All the old pannellists were emailed to tell us that we are no longer pannellists, only the show’s presenters get that title, and the rest of us are all going to be premoderated.

Yay.
They don’t even spell panellist correctly on the site.

I used to look in occassionally because so many answers were left ignored. There are a few old members lingering on, I saw Holdfast’s name there a few weeks back.

Yeah i look in about once a month Bubba. There are so many unanswered queries that it’s a non event. Those that are answered are not responded to because the writers are premoderated. So their query doesn’t show up, so they get annoyed, bugger off and don’t come back. Come Monday, there are 3 posts of the same question, from some obviously annoyed gardener, who usually doesn’t come back because they just get the shits with the whole forum and go elsewhere.
Not rocket science.

Nothing comes up on the message board, so they go elsewhere. (Of course it comes up on Monday, when the moderator starts work. Too late i fear.)

Now the staff at ABC have opted to be the panellists, i hope you have some success.

Being angry will achieve nothing.
I miss the GA forum. It wasn’t perfect, could’ve been made better, but was belted with a big stick.
Not my loss. The loss is for those who may have submitted a query and been denied an answer. So i figure GA is trying to remedy that. Unfortunately, the core of the problem is the lack of instant messaging. So the symptoms may be addressed, but the problem will continue.
A shame i reckon. Suggests dickheads are in charge.

yeah …I don’t even bother anymore…that forum is just a plain waste of time if you ask me.

Apart from the delay in answer’s, if you got them……I hated how it shut down over Christmas break…that was when I had the most time for gardening and the most gardening questions.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I feel for those who put God like hope into a question and never get an answer. That’s why I sometimes put up a link when I don’t have personal experience. At least it’s something for them to try. And it is obvious no one else is around to help with an answer. Not on GA though. I haven’t been there since one of my posts was deleted and I could never find out why.
