Here is a puzzle for you lot. We have a Panasonic set of three cordless phones here at the practice. Model KX-TG7871AZ. Had them some time, no problems. Since we went to NBN they seem to want to go onto AEST. We change them to daylight saving time and as soon as a call comes in they revert. It’s not a huge problem, we look at the clock on the wall for the time anyway, but it’s a bit perplexing.

Other information: the computer has correct time, the eftpos has the correct time. just discovered the fax is half an hour behind. That could just be that we didn’t reset it when we turned it off to move it. Although it does have the correct date.

Why is my phone determined to be on Queensland time?!

I cannot think of any way for the phones to get time/date information other than the connection they have to the NBN. Therefore I suspect that the NBN link is sending them the incorrect information. I’d check with the NBN people, although you’d probably be wasting your time as the call centre staff wouldn’t be much use.

At least your phone works on NBN. When my KK store got NBN our phone didn’t work at all.

That was my thought…must be based in Queensland or something. But then Mr buffy pointed out that the computer has the correct time (without me resetting it) and also the eftpos. I can’t find anything on the phone set for me to tell it where it is, like you can with a computer.

I was worried about that. The day of the changeover I locked the tech in. I wasn’t going to let him leave until the stuff worked. I didn’t actually end up having to tell him that though. We got a good tech.

Don was good!

Do you know, we haven’t actually done that. Might try it. Except that it was all unplugged during the changeover and then plugged in again.

Are the phones using VOIP and getting the time from your ISP ?

Maybe look for a modem setting under VOIP ?

I think they are. But that would not explain why the computer and eftpos are right and the phone is wrong.

the computer and eftpos are using different time servers to the voip

The computer sets its own time, unlike the phone, which uses whatever server it is currently connected to.

Computers and other devices usually get their time from time servers on the internet.

Date and time
Important:
- When you install the batteries for the first
time, the handset may prompt you to set
date and time. First press SELECT, then
proceed to step 2.
Handset
1 MENU#101
2 Enter the current month, date, and year
by selecting 2 digits for each.
Example: July 15, 2013
07 15 13
3 OK
4 Enter the current hour and minute
(12-hour clock format) by selecting 2
digits for each.
Example: 9:30
09 30
5 *: Select “AM” or “PM”.
6 SAVE > OFF

Setting the time manually is different to VOIP internet time servers doing it automatically

I would log into the MODEM and look for VOIP settings

ISP’s can send settings to the modem

its probably a wrong voip modem setting

Right, so we set it correctly, then turned it off, and on again. We have made a call out, and it hasn’t lost the correct settings. We will have to wait until someone calls in to see if it flicks back again.

I will report again later.

:)

(It’s not a big enough problem to bother with wasting time on the phone to ISP support people)

it will randomly update itself at some time during the day.

Had this problem when we switched to NBN too, our phone kept switching itself to Melbourne/Sydney time. Reset it to local time and it would always switch itself back.

Ah, thanks. So it’s not unknown. We’ll leave it alone. It will be right again out of DLS time.

Both my tablet and desktop had that problem. There’s no option on the Android tablet to automatically switch from standard time to daylight saving time.

Blame Google.
