YouTube is getting even more annoying, so what are the alternatives?

Vimeo now has an annoying sign up thing when you start up, and they want your money, so I didn’t look.

Dailymotion was a bit slow starting up, but seems to have a good selection. The one I looked at was add-free.

Any others worth investigating?

Don’t know, all I know is that running youtube from a web search engine with an ad blocker is the least annoying way to watch youtube that I know of. Never watch Youtube from within the youtube app.

Sure, free with no ads if I can get it, or free with one ad at the start, that’s OK.

When did YouTube start the “this is the next video you will watch if you cannot decide what you want next within 3 seconds” force-feeding?

Some time ago :)

I don’t mind that so much. You can cancel that and browse for as long as you want.

Quite a few, doubt it’s all of them though.

I haven’t found an ad on Dailymotion yet.

But none of the videos I looked at had more than 100 views, so that may not be representative.

I do. Because sometimes I want to re-watch various bits and I have to re-load the first video.

Just click on the cancel link in the middle of the video when you get to the end, then you can re-watch without re-loading.

Have you turned the “autoplay” button off?

Haven’t tried that one.

They have a good variety of videos, without unwanted advertising links do they?

You can also get programs to download YouTube videos, I’d assume they’d still have ads in them though

In this link from the Kirchoff thread:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TTEFF0D8SA

I get two separate ads at the start, then another one half way through.

Do you get the same?

I get one ad (which can be skipped after a few seconds) at the beginning and a little pop-up banner ad at the bottom of the screen part-way through. You can see the location of such ads (little yellow blips in the time stream thingy).

Enjoy all the wonderful benefits that modern media supplies but be wary as a punter of being assimilated into group think by the big players providing the services.
It’s a brave new world of endless entertainment.
I love watching historical youtube videos and new insights into say old battles and original footage and stuff.
I love reading old diaries and explorer journals and the like.
And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your browser. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, the internet is still a wonderful place.
