In an instant, those living in the ancient cities and agricultural settlements north of the Dead Sea were annihilated by a super-heated, cosmic blast from the skies that left destruction across nearly 200 square miles, according to new archaeological evidence.

Of course. Notthing much in the bible actually matches with any real date but it is probably more about the tying of strange events under the banner of a wrathful god.

I don’t want to cast too much shade but I wouldn’t get too excited about this. This is an archaeology paper presented at a American Schools of Oriental Research meeting.

“The soil ash samples gathered from Tall el-Hammam contain evidence of top-soil destruction and sub-soil contamination with Dead Sea salts that would have prevented the cultivation of crops for many centuries following the event.”

To me, this does not spell “airburst”.

Perhaps it was a mass scorched Earth policy / salting the ground by disgruntled conquers

One would expect to find elevated levels of certain particles at a certain depth.

Or something like that.

Agree. Assuming a city destruction due to airburst is a stretch. It could have been a simple hot fire. And the dead sea salts could have blown in or have been deliberately introduced.

It’s still a pretty good apocalypse by any standards.

Shyte Happins :-p

Tunguska Event

Had this taken place in some earlier time (and place?)
it would undoubtedly been blamed on some other capricious god
looking to settle some old score, or outlaw sumat else he disapproved of.
