Umm. Advantages and disadvantages.

The advantage of Canberra is that it hosted the previous space agency under Howard, the ANU is the centre of Australian University space research. Because of Space technology fabrication at Mt Stromlo. And because Australia’s private space operator EOS is there. It’s also the former home of the Australian branch of Astrium. And is home to CSIRO space tracking.

The advantage of Qld is near-equator location.

The advantage of South Australia is that it’s non-political (a big factor in choosing it for Collins class submarines) and because of a private satellite dish there. Umm, not much of an advantage. The CSIRO division in SA that could have helped was disbanded.

The advantage of Vic is the DSTO there which has space operations experience.

And besides, the South Australians would sulk ever so badly if they were passed over yet again.

LOL. I love it. A lot the be said for Heard Island as a site. Height makes it great for non-equatorial launches. Peace and quiet to ensure that the maximum amount of work gets done. And totally free from political influence.

But, we’re not going to get our hands dirty with rockets and such, are we?

Ins’t it all about nice offices somewhere civilised, with good restaurants with decent wine lists, hefty expense accounts, and lots of overseas travel to negotiate with other space agencies (who do have rockets)?
