The old piston engine might be around longer than expected.
>>As the United States becomes a net oil exporter for the first time in 75 years, the US Department of the Interior has announced the discovery of the largest continuous oil and gas field ever found. Situated in the Wolfcamp Shale and overlying Bone Spring Formation in Texas and the Permian Basin in New Mexico, the new resource is estimated to contain 46.3 billion barrels of oil, 281 trillion cu ft of natural gas, and 20 billion barrels of natural gas liquids worth trillions of dollars.<<

And that’s not considering the reserves under the three quarters of the globe that is underwater and becoming available with technology.
With technology like Mazdas compression petrol and hybrid I think fossil fuel will be around for a while.

I’m still not sure about 200 years from now. Before the American find, I would have said it was touch and go whether crude oil would run out in 200 years. The American find nearly, but doesn’t quite, bring American oil production back up to the previous peak production.

Yes. It’s simpler than that while gas lasts.
Coal + gas + heat = oil.
PAH + gas + heat = oil.

I don’t know what PAH is. But gas and fuel, though not fossil, but fossil like can be grown. Or in other words, I don’t think the advantages of the combustion engine will pass quickly.
Having said that, in the time frame of 200 years it may be as the same status as horse riding. Horses used to be a part of transport and industry, now they are leisure and hobby items.

I think the US has no real interests in the house of Saudi, (different to the country) other than a pretty compliant partner in OPEC who has proven their credentials and also as a purchaser of defence goods and a “reasonably” reliable provider of staging areas in the region. I suspect that role will diminish as the importance of those considerations diminish.
Israel though I suspect will remain an abiding interest because of electoral and philosophical reasons. And for that reason I think that in 200 years the Palestinians will still be throwing rocks.

I don’t see aeroplanes, either ultralight, fighter or cargo, ever being sufficiently efficient with anything other than ICE. Ditto motorbikes. Ditto helicopters.

This. There’s nothing remotely close to use as fuel for airliners & larger planes. There’s a few smaller planes that are using electric power but they are still rather limited in range & endurance compared to the liquid-fuelled ones. Better battery technology, etc, will help but it’s quite unlikely to replace the ICE/petrol types any time soon.

Yep. Perhaps the fastest bike in the world is the electric Lightning LS 218
It got the ‘218’ in the title because it did 218 mph on the Bonneville salt flats. That’s with the standard 200 hp from the motor, but since then they’ve improved the battery pack, controller, and cooling and can get 300 hp from the motor.
The video is well worth a watch.

Ages ago I noticed a correlation between oil location and limestone location. It’s more complicated than that because of limestone age. But is that about right?

Speed and duration tend to be opposites. Lighter weight improves speed but not duration.

Hey by the by
In most estimates of ultimate recoverable resources, it is assumed that you need to lift the oil to surface and to a refinery, and so if the energy required to do that is higher than the energy you’ll recover, then it’s not a resource.
But there have been papers on the possibility of refining the oil in situ, and running an underground oil powered electrical plant.
