A weird video I watched last evening (5 minutes) which shows a very, very inefficient way to give pi, but it is also completely mind blowing.

I enjoyed it too.

Another mechanical phenomenon that has a pi in it for no obvious reason is the equation for the vertical load on a column that will cause it to buckle, as discovered by our mate Euler.
