“This all remains a complete and utter mystery”.
No. We have a darn good idea what lies outside the universe by this stage. Things like the mass of the Higgs, the speed of cosmic inflation, and the death of supersymmetry, confine the state space of possibilities so tightly that only one possibility remains.
Didn’t watch the whole thing but he keeps talking about “what the universe is expanding into”, which is not necessary. It’s expanding because more space is opening up between things as they move away from each other.
