I just watched the first episode of the Monkees. How I used to love them.
Episode 1: 9/12/66 … Royal Flush The monkees foil a friendish plot to assassinate princess bettina, the Duchess of Harmonica.

Rare black and white footage of Mike Nesmith, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, and Davy Jones auditioning for the 60s hit NBC television program The Monkees.

Cool. My friends and I in primary school did the Monkees walk around the playground.

There is a few people on the tapes that didn’t get the job. Peter Tork audition might have been the strongest.
I remember the Monkee walk in the playground. I don’t know what happened to my airfix monkeemobile.

I lived up the hill and remember the concert being held there and I was envious and scared.

They built two Monkeemobiles. One still does the rounds of car shows in the US. Heard an interview with Mickey Dolenz a little while back. He said “the car makes more money than i do”.

Peter Tork already had strengths as did they all or they wouldn’t have been picled. Mike Nesmith had plenty and ended up being the one “who wrote the most songs.“https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EhNmFpoA9Y

Dolenz talked in the same interview about their musical ‘assignments’. He was a guitar player, that was his only instrument, but was told, no, we have the guitar and bass sorted out, you’ll have to be the drummer. So, he became the nominal drummer, although they often swapped roles during later recording and concert appearances.
Like it is rumoured that Paul McArtney wrote Helter Skelter after hearingthe Who’s I can see for miles, I wonder if Robert Plant didn’t get an inspiration from this: ie;going Down
I can hear Robert Plant there, “Go down, Go down “.. in when the levve breaks

Yeah, they were a regular tubular bells type cast in that they could change roles.
