Subject: GreyWater/Irrigation Maintenance

Sigh.

So I have gone and lost the documentation the plumber left about the greywater system. I may be able to find it again, but not before we go away for 6 weeks.

Can I get a general opinion from you knowledgeable folks about what to do with the greywater/irrigation system while we’re away?

Assume for argument the house will be empty for 6 weeks – we may have people housesitting from time to time but nothing concrete yet.

Will the system be OK to just sit and do nothing for 6 weeks? Will it for some reason be detrimental to let the pipes dry out for that long? Because I could run a scheme-water top up once or twice a week if for some reason that is recommended..

Thanks :):)

If it’s a new system, then it’s likely to be pvc and poly pipe, no?

If yes, then take Longy’s advice and worry about something else. Your pipes will be fine :)

taking into account the advice of others more experienced (I don’t have one myself) the only thing I might do is flush the system out with clean water so you don’t have any nasties sitting and breeding somewhere along the line while you are away.

Hmm, good thinking.

I was going to leave the monthly maintenance until I got back, but some free time may have opened up this afternoon (instead of staying the night at MiLs, we will get a taxi straight from here in the early hours of tomorrow), so I will try to fit in some time to clean the filters, flush all the flush valves, and then pop on the manual top-up for 20 or so.

Cheers bg :)
