Ok, so there are women who don’t know they’re pregnant until they give birth. This is called a cryptic pregnancy, and can be caused for several reasons including unconscious denial by the mother.

There are also women who believe they are pregnant, despite no evidence. Pregnancy tests and ultrasounds are negative. These women believe they can be pregnant for up to 5 years… with few symptoms and no positive tests. In my searching, there is no medical evidence for these cases, although there are several on the other type, where women don’t know they’re pregnant until a baby is born.

Humans are weird.

heard of this, and getting a long way into the cook before knowing, but can’t see how a lady could ignore the absence of periods.

This happened to the sister of a friend of mine. She was a somewhat plump lady already. Went to hospital with stomach cramps and got the surprise. She already had one child, so presumably she knew what labour pains were. But everybody accepted she knew nothing at all about it and it was a complete surprise.

Thanks for that anecdote. One woman i knew personally told me that she was into the third trimester before she realised she was pregnant.

She was obese. I asked about her period and she said that it had always been irregular because of endometriosis.

I hadn’t known of any cases longer than that. She didn’t know she was pregnant even at six months, and found out when visiting the doctor about feeling unwell.

She was obese but not extremely so. I asked about her period and she said that it had always been irregular because of endometriosis.

Thinking back, i think she was on her 8th month when told.

An old school friend of mine didn’t realise she was pregnant until she went into labour.
Unfortunately she had been through a period of drugs and alcohol, and didn’t know who the father was.
Her son was a bit premature, very low birth weight…other health problems.

Today he appears to be a successful person, into sports and has a good career.
During the months after his birth he had to stay in hospital and my friend ended up moving into the nurses’ quarters as she lost her flat.

Amazing period of her life.

Some women menstruate through pregnancy.
Others have such unreliable or slight menstruation that a gap without a period doesn’t seem unusual.
Still others are on a contraception program that eliminates periods.

Should go without saying that if you get to 9 months without realising you have a baby bump then you are probably a somewhat large person.

After the prison is in lockdown, Pell will be moved to his cell and will be given what is called an “immediate needs pack”.

The pack contains:

• $3 phone credit

• 1 pack of cigarettes (optional)

• 1 box of matches

• 1 toothbrush

• 1 small tube of toothpaste

• A bag containing sachets of coffee and sugar, and tea bags

• 600 ml of full cream milk

• Two condoms

I had friends that were surprised to find she was pregnant. He had had an accident in Vietnam and had been told it unlikely he would father children. She had had one period in her teenage years and was now 27. They had had years of unsafe sex.

She was around 6 months preganant when she went to the doctors complaining about her ongoing bloaty grumbling stomach.

Imagine if she was unaware until the baby popped out, waved and said “hi mum”
