Subject: Smokes?

What can be smoked other than the obvious tobacco and hemp?

Eg, can sugar or bagasse be smoked?

If I was to smoke pure carbohydrate (eg. cellulose, hemicellulose, sugar, starch) would it still have a calming effect? What about pure nucleic acid?

I’m thinking of this in terms of a whether a microscale countercurrent heat exchanger would be better than vaping.

I once saw a bloke snort the guts of a catalytic converter. He would have smoked anything he could get his hands on…

The screws I was training immediately before the Victorian prisons went smoke-free were telling me the prisoners were smoking chopped-up Nicotine patches with tea leaves.

I think the human imagination is a wonderful, but often destructive, thing.

I am told banana peels. Those stringy bits on the inside of the peel specifically. They can be collected and smoked once suitably dried.

Supposedly has mind-altering properties.

But I have never bothered to try it.

I’m thinking that hot water vapour is a relaxant. In burning vegetation, the burning of cellulose releases hot water vapour.

Even in the absense of extra chemicals.

I’ve read that Australian aboriginals had a local plant they would smoke, a sort of poor mans tobacco.

There ought to be such a thing as a perfect tar filter, one that filters out all carcinogens. It shouldn’t be too expensive.

Has there ever been a scientific measurement of the temperature at which smoke enters the mouth?

Thanks. I didn’t know that. (named after the sound made in spitting the leaves out, just joking)

That tallies with Idriess’s observations nearly 50 years later about the top-end Aboriginal’s desire for white-man tobacco.

That tallies with Idriess’s observations nearly 50 years later about the top-end Aboriginal’s desire for white-man tobacco.

Pituri is far superior to white-mans tobacco, being four times stronger. So strong in fact that it could kill you and why it was commonly used on spiritual occasions. The normal tobacco used before European Settlement is quite common on rocky outcrops, but is chewed rather than smoked. Being less strong than white-mans tobacco it quickly became very popular with Aborigines.

I was living in a shared house with a coouple of other blokes and when I arrived home one day there was a large number of banana skins drying on the clothesline. I didn’t know which would be worse trying to eat that many bananas in a day or smoking the stuff.

From memory, Billy Tea just falls out of the papers and thus won’t stay alight. Bamboo tastes foul.

If you wanted to get high you would hardly be bothered with eating them. Which is also the proof it doesn’t work, if it did people would be doing it, dopeheads would be buying them by the bag from woollies and in qld they would be growing them.

Some friends of mine in the past did experiments of which herbs could be mixed with their ultra strong heads to smooth the smoke. They chose dried parsley as the best, even though oregano is supposed to be slightly psychoactive. They didn’t want a stronger flavour than the heads. I reckoned that pennyroyal was the best because it mentholated.

They are supposed to be very much deadlier than street cannabis. Which is deadlier than home grown. Which is worse than it used to be.

Uh Huh! That was the year I got addicted to it.
We were slicing it off bricks and eating it too..
..smoking it round the clock..
I’d go to school and come home sicky :-P
one puff would bring the world back into focus,
that’s how we realized it was time to set it aside.

Hadda read all the way to the end before asking
“has anyone else tried Dimethyltryptamine?”
…to have someone beat me to it. Shit’s INSANE!
