cherry on the top of the cake.

I can’t figure out the shadow thing, I’m thinking “he isn’t a shadow of his former self” but that isn’t right. And what is the cheese for? I don’t think it’s “cut the cheese”.

What’s the shadow doing? Broken egg, walking on eggshells. From rags to riches.

Holy Mackerel!!! (Swiss Cheese/Fish)
The object in the upper left corner is the top half of the walnut “In a nutshell”(?)
…and I see the ‘Piece of Cake” , “with a cherry on top”
but I can’t make out the 3 tiny objects the shadow is holding or indicating.

> but I can’t make out the 3 tiny objects the shadow is holding or indicating.
I had to zoom in for that. The left and right are two haoves of a broken eggshell and the centre is the yolk and white.
So it’s either part of “don’t carry all your eggs in one basket” or something else.
It doesn’t seem to be “you can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs” or “walking on eggshells”, so my great powers of deduction seem to have failed there.

Ah! perhaps that solves the mystery of the female like shadow
who “can’t make an omlet without breaking a few eggs”
oops

I interpret the shadow as a younger version of the person

Yes. That’s why I suggested it.

Both are in there.
PS. I’ve never hear of “hold a cat by the tail”, only “have a tiger by the tail”, probably initially by Kipling.
Why do you all think “hold a cat by the tail” is a figure of speech?

Any cat is going to be a similar proposition. Some slightly lesser than others but nonetheless scratchy.

In my line of work i often hear have/hold a/the cat by the tail when in root cause analysis of a system outage we find the evidence of a techo having circumvented approved procedure.

Have you ever had a room you could swing it in, anyway?

Yes. Hold on, I have my cat right here. Yes, the room this computer is in is big enough to swing a cat. I checked.
You know the original was to swing a cat-o-nine-tails on the deck of a ship, right?
