Brace yourself for a whinge of monumental poroportions.
1)It all started with Kevin’s Op
2) Rear ended in the rain on the same day he went into hospital.
3) Tried to break up cat fight and got a savaged finger. Finger got infected and needed antbiotics, also seems that a nerve was nicked and finger is partly numb.
4) Uncouth sons and friends not keeping house clean and Kevin and I both one handed.
5) more damage was done to car then first thought so no thransport for a week.
6) woke up in the wee hours of Thursday night with the mother of all heartburn pains. It continued until I was forced to take a taxi to the hospital in the middle of Friday night. It’s not my heart and it’s not my pancreas but it may be gall stones, in which case I’ll have my gall bladder taken out.
7) If it is gall stones that means no 21st birthday party for son.
And during all this MrBL’s snoring has reached an all time high, and I can’t make him roll over because of his arm, so we’ve been playing musical beds.
I feel much better now.

that is surely a litany of woes. I hope that all comes good really soon for you and that something can still be done for son’s 21st.

Thanks. If the worst happens we’ll just postpone it. I’m not in any pain today so I’m hoping it was a one off.
Did i mention the fun of trying to grocery shop with no car and a one armed husband? :(

I can relate with the snoring prob, my OH’s snoring is worsening and I’m threatening to make him sleep out with the chooks.
Make him a very strong coffee at night, then he will stay awake and you can sleep!!

ROFL!!
I shouldn’t laugh actually.. the latest drama saw me flee my car in the middle of the main st , last week, with giant son going off the deep end kicking the crap out of the car , because some of the keys on his phone don’t work and he couldn’t ring the activation number of the pre paid sim card I’d just got him.
A cracked centre console and a slightly bent auto gear stick..
I’m not going to get a new car now, I’m just going to keep patching this one up.

Oh Bubba – what a list of troubles! I do hope that this is your share for at least a year, it’s surely enough! I also hope it’s not gallstones, although that is a simple operation now compred to what it used to be.
Mr o40’s snoring problem (more mine than his!) has been solved because he has to wear a breathing mask at night – he has slight sleep Apnoea. I now sleep with Darth Vader but it’s infinitely better than snoring!!

We think he’s developed sleep Apnoea as well. He’s woken himself up gasping with his heart pounding a few times lately. His brother has it too, so after his arm is back in action he’s off to see the quacks.

This seems like good thread to use……
We are in the process of swapping over medical clinics…. we usually go up to Elizabeth to a medical clinic and its a first in first serve for seeing the quack you want. So we at times will sit there for up to 3 hours. We can have an appointment if we want…… $40 and no help from medicare…..
Around the corner is a medical clinic that we can book appointments. So we’re off there Wednesday morning. Have to get them used to the elf as he has a carer update in Dec/Jan. So we want a doctor who has some understanding of the elf’s medical condition to fill out the forms.
I have been trying to get my stubborn elf to the quack for a check up for about a month and he really doesn’t want to sit there for 3 hours….. and I can understand this. So i have taken matters into hand and when we walked past the clinic I booked us in.

If we need someone after hours here it’s a toss up between waiting hours to see what may be a dubious doctor at The Royal Bris or going to the emergency room at a private hospital and paying about $250 out of pocket.
I went to the private one because they have my pancreatitus records. :(

Not good – sleep apnoea. My dad has it (uses a positive air pressure machine at night too) and his father (my grandfather) probably passed away from it. I think my dad had some of the first prototypes of the machines (imagine painted mdf and the whole diy look… probably 15 to 20 years ago) and I can
definitely say that the modern ones are a thousand times quieter in the middle of the night!
Hope everyone’s woes pass soon!

It really means nothing because it hasn’t caused me any physical problems like paralysis or anything. I am saying prayers of thanks on a regular basis ATM. I have to have repeat MRI’s and tests etc but for now I am ok.
“Small strokes that do not cause any symptoms. Silent strokes still damage brain tissue.”
A warning, could have been much worse. Glad that it wasn’t.
Me too! It was purely by accident that it was even discovered. Now of course the new life change to get healthy again. Doctors love this stuff.

Yes I went for a scan because my brother found out he has eschemia and that I should check myself as it can be inherited. No eschemia but the left overs of a stroke. It took me a week to come to terms with it.

Get rid of “trans” fats from what you eat. Now.
No butter, use olyve oyl or better yet, rice bran spreads if you must, avoid commercial biscuits and cakes…do you want me to find out what else?
Also, gardening is not enough. Get a pedometer and work out a routine of rythmic exercise…walking is just fine…but get into the habit of it.
You will be referred to a dietitian no doubt, but try to invest in a sports physiologist as well.
Lower the fat content in the dairy products that you eat: read the labels on the backs of things for the fat content…if two similar products have similar calories but one has obviously more fat, go for the low-fat product…
It’s a whole new world, this watching what you eat…literally…

I have to stay on a no fat diet until after the op, and I could have another flare up at any time, so we’ve called off the party for now. I’m not going to miss out on a piece of birthday cake!!!

Went to the new quack this morning….. he’s ordered a batch of blood tests for both of us. Just to see what and were we are with our diabetes.
Also one of the medication has now been taken off the PBS (government decided) as it’s got side affects when mixed with one or 2 of the other medications the elf is on.
So when we get the blood tests done (fasting tomorrow and in for the blood drain just after 8 am) and once the results are back, we’ll see what medications need changing and to what for the elf.
Only 7 prescriptions to go and we have reached our yearly safety net. So that then will be a minimum of $26.50 better off in our pockets.
We can now walk to our new Dr.‘s abode and not take the car…… heaps easier than going about 3 burbs away. Our old doc that moved so far away (used to live in the street we rented when we first came here) is about to retire…. so we have made the move.
Going to be interesting to see how we go with a new fresh set of very young eyes looking down from his very tall body…… heck he’s tall.

HI may as well use this thread for my complaints and woes .
Over the last ex amounts of weeks my right shoulder/arm to my elbow has been getting worse.
First off I thought it was due to the mattress on the bed being turned over…so we moved it back the other way.
The I thought it was all the knitting, so I gave that up to rest my arm.
Still got worse. To the stage I am not sleeping and the pain was unbearable.
So off to the quack I went….He’s going to look into my ankle too. (New Doc) new surgery too.
Anyway I had a scan yesterday and 16 scans printed off I was give a court-a-zone injection in the top of my shoulder.
If I wasn’t given front row seat at the monitor, I was have cried as the pain…..OMG. Anyway I watched the needle go into my arm and the medication move from the needle to my shoulder meat…..that was so cool
Will take a week for the thing to kick in…if it works.
Tomorrow I have an appointment at 9.10 in the morning as well as the elf. We had a full medical in blood tests and a second batch was ordered for my arm.
So my arm is stuffed big time at the moment from shoulder to elbow. Still doing things, but not like I was…. can’t lift my arm very high or bend it out.
Best news is…I haven’t woken up with a white chalk mark around my body:D

It’s good work there Lucky. Do you think the exercise/gym that you installed has helped get rid of the dreaded diabetes? I don’t have diabetes but we have a x trainer and I am exercising every day and definately feeling better for it.
As part of the litany of woes…………….I had an echocardiograph yesterday and had a sneaky look at the results (before my Dr) and there is something “unusul” there. Pays not to stick your nose where it isn’t supposed to be. Probably nothing bad but “unusual” sticks out amongst all the medical jargon.
Car cleaning day today. Our car is embarrassing in it’s present state. Mind you we treat it like a ute and stuff plants, hardware, hay and poo in it. It’s a small car and we’ve never had a trailor for it. Might have to ask Santa Clause to do something about that.

Good to hear the pains eased a bit Lucky.
The physio fella told me how to manoeuvre myself and the top garments, pj’s , tshirts blouses ect so I could undress /dress myself. It’s my right shoulder too and I always remember to take the left arm out first when undressing, right arm in first when dressing. It really helped so might be worth asking if you can have a physio check up.
