One day I emptied the tub out and spread the contents on the side – and the next day they were all back in again. I thought I was going mad.

72-year-old British man Stephen Mckears began to question his sanity when he started noticing objects had been moved around in his shed overnight. And they weren’t just being randomly placed, things like clips and screws were somehow finding themselves neatly packed back into a tub as if to chastise Mr. Mckears for his untidiness

Baffled but determined to solve the mystery, Mr. Mckears decided to empty out the tub and scatter its contents around. He was astonished to find that sure enough, everything was back in its place the next morning. Something was definitely afoot.

Still the only comments is me whinging and you seeing my whinge.

I did think people would be interested when I posted it. Even though I think the mouse is just working on nesting behaviours.

It’s strange isn’t it.

Stranger than “The borrowers” and “Mrs Frisby and the rats of NIMH

Not quite as strange as “The tailor of gloucester” by Beatrix Potter, where the mice complete the sewing of a garment left out overnight.

I didn’t read it because there was no precis, and the link started with “bored panda” and I was very tired and needed to snoozle. Sorry to disappoint.

Fair enough.

You don’t trust me to post an interesting link. I understand. It wasn’t that interesting.

I usually click on your links but with my own links, always provide an idea of what they’re about, so people can decide if it tickles their fancy.

Be nice if they cleaned up their own shit in that manner.

Although I must say, my current mice leave little in the way of poo.

I don’t think so. Nesting involves going great distances in search of specific items, such as grass or fibreglass. I think it’s more like:

A) Neatness, when it extends into compulsion, becomes the better-known obsessive compulsive disorder, or OCD.
B) Going to work each day. Fixing the messes that other people have made of things.

This isn’t a nest. This is a workplace.

So we have here an obsessive compulsive disorder in a mouse. Shouldn’t we be looking for a cause? It could be significant research?

A) I assume this isn’t normal behavior for a “WILD” Mouse,
…otherwise it wouldn’t be news worthy.
B) Is this a reproducible phenomenon
C) Can he prove this isn’t a trained “Pet” and he’s having us on?
(Pull the other one, it plays ‘Jingle Bells’. >:-p )

I find it odd that if the mouse was merely concerned with clearing/cleaning his space
why didn’t he resort to simply dragging the objects to the edge
of the table and chucking it over the side?

That’s familiar from somewhere. Where is that familiar from?

Ah, “flowers for algenon”. “Two researchers at Beekman, Dr. Nemur and Dr. Strauss, are looking for a human test subject on whom to try a new surgical technique intended to increase intelligence. They have already performed the surgery on a mouse named Algernon, resulting in a dramatic improvement in his mental performance. … Algernon starts behaving erratically, loses his own enhanced intelligence, and dies.”

I see the connection.
