time now for putting in place planting plans for spring/summer.

seeds i’ve got that can be put into punnets for spring -
tomatoes, capsicum (cal wonder), eggplant, spinach, lettuce (mix), celery, leeks, savoy cabbage, butternut pumpkin, lebanese cucumber, corn, basil, bluelake/purpleking beans.

seeds i’ve got for direct sowing in spring -
carrots, beetroot, sunflower, kale, peas, raddichio, parsley, fennel

seeds i need to buy -
broccoli, zucchini, sweet spuds, red cabbage, spring onions, cummin.
- and any seeds i run out of when planting punnets.

now what have i forgotten? – about 100 varieties of tomatoes! moan not my favourite subject.

Well I have finally gone around and collected much of the little fertilizer offerings from our pony, flung them on the round front bed…I thought of splitting this bed in half (it’s 2 metres in diameter) and having a 3 sisters on the western half and the tomatoes, onions (I’ve been buying sprouted onions from WW) basil and other compatible herbs, on the eastern half…so the corn protects the tomatoes and friends from the western sun (and storms)…

Tell me Pepe, I have a salad lettuce seed mix: will that grow OK sown straight into horse manure?

Dumb question: will the pony eat this (lettuce)? If so, I’ll have to rethink where I’ll put this bed…

i would fork the manure in, wait 2 weeks and weed it. horses seem to leave a lot of seed in their manure.
i found that a whole packet of lettuce seed is several hundred plants… you probably only need 12 plants.
i guess a horse will eat lettuce – you could put netting over it.

thanks for the benefit of the advice about 1 pkt lettuce seeds = hundreds lettuce plants…

Still collecting fertile offerings from my little production unit (the pony)…the garden bed is lovely, reaping the benefit of all the HP I threw on it over the past year…wish the Dawg had not chewed my pH soil testing kit…

I’ll dig the HP in like Pepe suggested…slowly building my collection of sprouted onions…

…but you surely wouldn’t be planting broccoli at this late time of the year?

summer broccoli is possible down south here – so are summer carrots, celery, cabbage – even parsnips i think.
