Could I determine the alcohol content of beer by simply weighing a beer can full and empty, and dividing by the volume on the label?

If you trust the volume on the label, why don’t you trust the alcohol content on the label?

Why not measure the volume, as well as the weight?

That would require that you open the bottle/can.

Beer would then get drunk.

When I was making homebrew the method was to use a hyrdometer, take a reading start and another immediately before bottling. There was a formula to use whereby you work out the alc/vol percentage based on those two numbers, but it is too long ago for me to remember what the formula was.

I guess you probably could do it from measuring the volume and weight, but I wouldn’t know how.
