Question for Rule.
Mr buffy is getting around 90 degrees bend in the new knee and the surgeon wants him to push it…gently, of course. His suggestion is sitting on a high table swinging legs like a child. Do you have any other possibilities? We’ve just tried him lying on his back with his knee bent up towards his chest and isometric pushing and gentle pushing to increase the bend. Do you think this would be safe? It was reasonably comfortable for him.
Why do you want other possibilities?
i think the first suggestion is much better than the second. In the first, swinging from a high table, all the muscles are relaxed, not tense, and therefore not in danger of opposing the motion.
In the second, if the muscles tense during the action then there is the capacity for damage. So do the second, too, but ONLY if you can be absolutely sure that the muscles will not tense up to oppose the action.
