Subject: Outside Blind Project

Thinking of building an outside automatic blind that has a temperature controlled motor to lower and raise it.

Lowers when a hot temperature in summer is reached, rises when it gets cooler.

Lowers when a temperature in winter is reached, rises when it gets warmer etc

Thinking about what bits I need.

The blind itself will have a high thermal insulating rating.

Be able to set the temp controller from a smartphone app to handle all year climate.

also have a night mode for lowering and a day mode for rising etc

I should be able to source all the bits.

There are some passive ways you could do this, by building a shade with just the right angles to shade the summer sun out but let the winter sun in.

Or you could get roller shutters.

Thanks for that.

There’s lots of information out there. I took that one from the Australian Government website.

Might be worth a read if you’re keen.

Another DIY idea would be to retro fit an electric motor to an existing outside thermal blind, then add a temp / manual controller to it.

Depends on your budget.

There are a few roller shutter models on the market, which can be operated by simple switches or even via remote control. I daresay some of them could be hooked up to a centralised computer system. You’d just need to write the software.

There is that option

Some house automated systems are modular in that aspect or may have that feature.

An arduino could be programmed do do it as well.
