Subject: Green Gage Plum ?

I have bought a Green Gage Plum, and I was wanting to find out what do I get to pollinate it —they say the following are used but very hard to come by
Santa Rosa, Golden Drop,Damison
If I was to buy another Green Gage would that suffice?

Hang in there Arty, the forum goes a bit quiet these days, more lively towards the end of the day when most of us check in to catch up on the chat threads…

Dunno much about plums, but i’ll bet you dont need another of the same type, or it’d be a self pollinating type and you wouldn’t need another one.

My mum had greengage plums, she also had a satsuma.. neither really are best at pollinating each other but.. she has as many plums as were needed.

yes, She always had lots of greengage plums, plenty for herself … Partly because I am not a big plum eater.

Note that there are differences between European and Japanese plums.

Self pollinated there were no other plums nearby, cutting out chance of pollination from someone else’s tree.

Technically, the Green Gage Plum is not a European Plum. This Plum is
self-fertile meaning it should pollinate itself without needing another
Plum to help produce a crop.

The Satsuma was probably a useful choice as it was also not an Eurpoean variety but it isn’t necessary to provide a special pollinator for Green Gage plums..

Strange that I got a job today doing just that .. grafting a plum pollinator through an orchard. ;)
