Chrome is dead? Or Norton?

I switched off Chrome on android more than a year ago in order to go ad free.

As of yesterday, on windows, Norton is continually giving me Malicious Domain Request 22 errors. Like 1000 an hour. Web says only occurs in Chrome and normal cleaning doesn’t work.

Web also says “disable norton safe search”. And to do that first get the Norton toolbar up on the browser.

To get the Norton toolbar, first go to … extensions on the browser. The “extensions” isn’t where the web says it is, but I find it and enable Norton toolbar. Still no toolbar visible. Stuck.

Time to abandon Chrome completely? And if so, which browser. Really important to port over all bookmarks, passwords, etc.

Or abandon Norton. I don’t even know which damn version of Norton I’m running.

Haven’t used Norton for decades. I try not to visit malicious domains as well.

Sumats up…
I’m using FireFox on a Mac
and all the AdBlockers are going haywire.

As far as Norton is concerned
that too is giving me warnings nearly every page I visit.

…meanwhile…
I saw a warning broadcast via the TV
about Leaked N.S.A. cyberweapon resulting in RANSOM WARE/HACKING

I’ve got the Chrome vires here.
I keep getting harassed to install it.
And I just use the Microsoft free antivirus Defender software, never had a problem apart from the Chrome virus.

I only get harassed to install Chrome when I use Google, which isn’t often.

Anyway, in the case of the RansomWare Attacks, so far the only work-around
is to have ALREADY Backed Up your Files et al, since even paying
the ransom doesn’t insure that your files won’t be corrupted
..or have a Trojan Horse inserted.

Yeah, that was to be the replacement for IE but as you say it’s gone quite, very quite.

Sounds like a line out of an old war movie…

Private: “It’s quiet.”
Sergeant: “Yeah… TOO Quiet!”

When even the insects aren’t making their normal noises
it’s a safe bet that there’s someone lurking in their midst.

It first appeared on visiting sci-hub. Could be it was hacked. Or more likely it was a bad update.

When I visited sci-hub, I noted two Russian sites attempting to get their hooks in.

Because I blocked them, the site went to 504: bad gateway. It isn’t hacked as such, they depend upon advertisers to pay for the site. The advertisers hack into you.

I can’t help laughing at you guys. You seem to have so many issues and fears on the internet. All these problems. And here am I, getting updates from MS without a prob. Going to websites without problems even though I block ads. Not really noticing anything amiss. And computer running fine all this time.

That’s not a problem. It was a deliberate thing. Free stuff comes at a price.

Same here..
..same system, same browser..
The only issue was all the AdBlocking extensions
going belly-up last week leaving many to panic and seek offered “FREEWARE
wherein you were asked ‘permission to install’ —-pretty much the tip-off that sumat nefarious is afoot

I denied permission and canceled the offered FREE download.

as mentioned earlier in the thread…
I’m still weary of the sudden disruption of all Ad Blockers,
which, as you say, are all too often pretty packages for delivery systems
of sneaky shyte …in tandem with the timing of the General (World Wide) Hacking ALERT

So far, they’ve sounded the ALL-CLEAR w/ the WARNING To Back-Up vital files (just in case)

The Norton messages on Chrome have stopped.

I think Norton rebooted itself because I’m getting all these annoying ticks on my google searches that only appear after a new installation of Norton, and because Norton came up with a checkbox popup saying, ‘do you want to report error messages back to Norton?’ and this time I clicked ‘yes’. The error messages disappeared less than 24 hours later.

Do you update your browser automatically? Usually for me, the addons get a bit fuzzy then suddenly the browser has been updated and everything is back to normal.
