All stuffed after yesterday’s big effort…Hang in there Anne…
:)
Earlier today one of my neighbours brought me two bare rooted self sown peach trees! I’ve dug the hole and planted one of them…now my back is stuffed for a while. Might have to leave the other one till tomorrow (or con MrS). I think I will still go ahead and fertilize the nectarine. What have I got to lose? It could do with plenty of leaf growth this year and concentrate on fruit next year I reckon. Get the tree healthy first. Again that might be a tomorrow’s job.
I also have to dig a bed for a some roses that I am trying to salvage. They are my Mum’s. About 3 years ago my brother (who lives with Mum and hates gardening with a passion) decided to dig up all of her roses (about 30 of them) and put them in pots so that he could turn the beds over to lawn for easy maintenance. Trouble was, because of work commitments etc he never had time to look after them, and they dried out and became overgrown with weeds. Mum is heartbroken, because she really loved her roses, but being too frail has also been unable to care for them.
So I have brought 9 of them back with me to try to salvage but although I know nothing about roses, having never grown them myself, I feel that most of them have reverted to rootstock. I can’t even tell where the graft is on them, but the way the canes are growing suggests roorstock to me. Anyway after advice from Thee and a few others I am going to stick them in a bed and see what happens. If they are only rootstock maybe I will be able to graft on to them later.
