Subject: Thanks Weird Gran and Bulgarian Umbrella

Weird Gran spotted the above book in a bin at Vinnies and managed to rescue it. It’s a 1924 copy of the Electrical wiring rules, all 53 pages of. Boris mentioned it on here, some some begrudging thanks should also be…nah.

Bulgarian Umbrella had the book scanned and sent me a copy and then shortly after offered to send me the physical copy. I, of course, demurely declined (bullshit) but it has somehow ended up in my hands anyway – HUZZAH

This is the 1924 version lying on top of the 1991 version of the document. 1991 is the last version that I have in hardcopy and it’s 328 pages. The rules were updated last year so we now have the AS/NZS 3000:2108 which comes in at 611 pages. Having a look and the 2007 version, which was the next to last revision comes in at 454 pages. I haven’t bought a harcopy in years and everything is now just PDF copy of the documents. Just looking at the pricing, $225 for the PDF and $250 for the hardcopy versions; SAI Global – you thieving bastards. The 1924 version doesn’t have a price on it :)

So progress:

1924 = 53 pages
1991 = 328 pages
2000 = 299 pages
2007 = 454 pages
2018 = 611 pages

hmmm

So by around the year 3250 should take someone a year to read

:-)

Old versions are good. Eg. I have an antique version of the Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, alongside a newer version.

As for wiring rules. A lot of houses around still have antique electrical wiring, so it should come in very useful.

I have about 100 old books that other people here may find useful. Most of them are ex-CSIRO-library books. I guarantee quality of information, not quality of binding.

Now wonders if the same evil and nefarious scheme I devised to work on BU and obtain the book will also work on Bubbles; or will it need to be modified?

Sorry but it’s of sentimental value :) Belonged to my Dad.

Step 1: Get him to leave it to you in his will.
Step 2: Well, I’ll leave that up to you to decide…
