I see Tomic has put on another dazzling display of the childish dumbfuckery our male Tennis players are becoming known for.

Time.com said:

Australian tennis player Bernard Tomic was fined his full prize money of 45,000 pounds ($56,500) at Wimbledon on Thursday for not meeting “the required professional standards” in his first-round loss.

Didn’t put in enough effort, according to the Umpire.

Outrage around Kyrgios’ eccentric performances too..

“The fiery Kyrgios threw everything he had at Nadal — including an extraordinary 230kph second-serve ace — and undoubtedly had him rattled before the Spaniard eventually prevailed 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(7/5), 7-6(7/3) in the second round clash.

It was the best match of Wimbledon’s opening week as, amongst the expected histrionics, both men hit the heights with some relentlessly powerful and accurate serving in particular.”

Kyrgios’s game was on too late for me to watch, unfortunately.

And I don’t understand why they don’t time-delay matches when they overlap. I mean, it’s not like the technology hasn’t been around for like half a century or more.

I watched it.. Arse v Arse picker. Riveting stuff. Not sure whether to cheer or smash the tv screen.

If you time-delayed and watched all the good matches you’d be watching all day and all night.
That way lies maadness.

if you think about’t that’s an interesting statement, in which eccentric is a swear word, soft maybe, as used.

sport, sociology would perhaps describe, as something people engage in to learn cultural norms, or rules, the ways of culture.

but, further, it was, or is only a matter of time before playing professional sport and yielding to social expectations diverge some.

there’s my response to using the term eccentric as a swear word.

smack

Yes. Cricket and The Tour de France. Anything else is off-limits. It’s in the forum constitution; you should read it.

Eccentric: a disc or wheel mounted eccentrically on a revolving shaft in order to transform rotation into backward-and-forward motion, e.g. a cam in an internal combustion engine.

Curious contrast between the men’s game and the women’s.

There are zero men under 30 who have won a major, now.

The men’s game has been thoroughly dominated by three players (Federer, Nadal, Djokovic) for over a decade, such that these three will probably still be the three leading major winners in 30 years’ time.

Of the 47 majors held since 2004, only 10 have been won by other players (Murray 3, Wawrinka 3, del Potro 1, Gaudio 1, Cilic 1, Safin 1).

There are several women under 30, some quite young indeed, who have a won a major: Halep, Barty, Osaka, Wozniacki, Ostapenko, Muguruza, Kvitová. Although Serena Williams has been clearly the most successful player in that interval mentioned above, there have been a stack of major winners: Serena Williams 17, Henin 5, Sharapova 5, Clijsters 4, Kerber 3, Venus Williams 3, Kuznetsova 2, Kvitova 2, Muguruza 2, Mauresmo 2, Halep 2, Azarenka 2, Li 2, Osaka 2, Bartoli 1, Barty 1, Ivanovic 1, Myskina 1, Ostapenko 1, Pennetta 1, Schiavone 1, Stephens 1, Stosur 1, Wozniacki 1.

Yeah. Likewise if you compare the number men to hold the number 1 ranking this milenium (9) v the number of women (19), if I’m capable of counting.

In the period I mentioned (since 2004) there have been four such chaps (the fourth being Murray, who led for nearly a year in 2016/7).
