Can I pretty please tear off a couple of the outside leaves to go with the apples I want to stew for tonight’s dessert.?????????????

Say what….LOL
take one quarter to one third of the plant.. starting with older leaves. Since you are only cooking the stalks the state of the leaf is of no matter to you. The plant will be forced to make new leaves.

Well I’d rather you ate the stems…eat the leaves and you’ll be one very sick Lucky1. But yes it wouldn’t hurt to harvest a couple of the stems. Might encourage new growth
I harvested a 3rd of them and composted the leaves.
Marked out to the elf where we are to start weeding and then planting plants. The gang will ge a few buckets of scrap weeds each day,….. thistles to the bunnies.
Off to stew #1 and some apples.

Make sure you don’t put any water with it when you are cooking the rhubarb….just rinse the stalks and slow cook them. I add a little brown sugar ….takes away the tartness and I think also helps to keep the colour. My Mum always adds a pinch of carb soda to keep the colour, but I don’t. I’ve read it ruins the vitamins and minerals.

Harvest the biggest leaves leaving several centre ones.. then a dose of worm wee will see new leaves grow fast.
Clearing the weeds near it’s base will do it a big favour too ;)

Oh Dinetta, I am just so thrilled to think I actually got to grow a rhubarb long enough to actually harvest a few stalks off it.
Gave #11 a feed of worm wee the other day and I haven’t killed it and there is a second new leaf unfolding.
