I wonder what sensors could eventually be shrunk down to fit onto a smart phone.
You could also use them as a network to record various information across the globe

I wonder how long before the Chinese government decides that microphones must always be on to record the populace in real time for a glorious victory over subversion.

Yes it could be misused I imagine it wouldn’t be impossible to subvert the networks and have them as the eyes, ears and location of millions of people.

This is interesting

Here is a plugin sensor pack for a phone lacking sensors

https://stacksocial.com/sales/sensordrone-11-sensors-for-your-smartphone

Sensordrone is here to turn your smartphone into the world’s first mobile, wearable, programmable, sensing computer. Packing more than 11 sensors into one tiny package, Sensordrone turns your smartphone into a carbon monoxide detector, non-contact thermometer, gas leak detector, lux meter, weather station, diagnostic tool & more. And if that’s not enough, Sensordrone is an open platform for all kinds of sensor and Bluetooth peripheral device apps, so you can connect external sensors for whatever project you’re working on. Currently, there are 11 Android apps available for free, and more are being developed every day – like data sharing apps so you can combine sensor data with smartphone capabilities and share on Twitter, Google+, Facebook, etc.

The CCP do in fact have an extensive sound surveillance system, though, not using phones…apparently.

The mobile phone thing is easy to sort out

An android OS dressed to Dept Ed specs locking out 3,4,5,G etc

Only Dept approved apps run on it

a K1 to K12 sensor science app, a calculator etc

maybe a school news bulletin

no internet browsing, no social media bullying, no game distractions etc

Schools can then brand their own phones with their school logo etc

Examples are telecom companies using the android OS but with their own in house front end running on top of the OS

So Education Department software running on android devices locking out certain features on a chosen device and enabling other features.

One way to get more science into schools.

or a similar model that has 3G, 4G 5G but can automatically switch to the schools network

Australian Backyard Bird Survey is an app for smartphones.

I would love to find an app (or any software) that allows me to process a video to subtract one frame from the next in real time. This could be used for:
