The money is gone so we won’t be getting that back. It has been used to destroy habitat everywhere that it hadn’t been destroyed before.
The landscape has been altered. Catchments, flood plains and natural drainage patterns changed forever.

Mine was one of the voices ignored whilst the MDB scheme was shamelessly raped and pillaged beyond redemption.

However, here we are where our rivers will no longer flow.

Perhaps not in our lifetimes but in the longer term I remain optimistic.

It’s a horrible mess of state and federal jurisdictions and existing commercial agreements.

Never heard of him. But then I’m insular. Almost all my news comes from the ABC. Usually Just In.

He is talking a lot of sense. You are so far behind that it is not funny.

True.

The MDB on the other hand, is so far behind that it still hasn’t implemented the Idriess water supply increase plan proposed way back in 1941. It’s literally the only way to go.

The irrigators have lost half their water in the past 45 years, since the mid 1970s. All that water has gone to urban growth. Neither the water for the other farmers nor the environmental flows have changed significantly in 45 years.

Government management of the MDB is a complete dogs breakfast, but at least they seem to be well intentioned, unlike the water barons. I blame Howard for the government mess – it was he who created the water barons in order to get water users to fight one another as a deliberate attempt to stop them from working together to make things better.

Who are you going to blame when all the irrigators have gone?
