Subject: Mammal nests?

Following on from thoughts about bedding for homeless people, aborigines, gorillas and zoo animals.

What is known about mammal nests?
Eg stick-nest rat
Like a rat’s nest
Do brushtail and ringtail possums make nests?
Do rabbits carry bedding material into their burrows? Other burrowing mammals? Pika, mole rat?
What about bears?
Do beavers carry soft bedding material into their lodges?
Dormice?

Are these nests for adult mammals sleeping? Or, like birds, only for babies and for courting?

With such diversity, there would be multiple reasons as to why some mammals build a nest or not, what type of nest, materials, location, etc, etc, etc. The need of each species need to be considered like predators, climate, available materials and the robustness of the animal itself, therefore generalisations do not provide much insight.
